UN Security Council Votes to Urge North Korea to Not Conduct Another Nuclear Test
UN Urges North Korea Not to Conduct Nuclear Test (Update2)By Bill Varner
Oct. 6 (Bloomberg) — The United Nations Security Council’s 15 member governments unanimously urged North Korea not to test a nuclear weapon and to return to six-nation talks on dismantling its arms program.
“The Security Council underlines that such a test would bring universal condemnation by the international community,” a statement adopted by the Security Council says. While no specific threats of UN action were included, the text says the council would “act consistent with its responsibility under the charter of the United Nations” if a test is conducted.
